Facial Features of the Chin
Explanations of Facial Features in the Chin Area
Chin Shape:
- Round chin - the chin is nicely rounded without angles
- Square chin - the chin is angular, flat on the bottom and noticeably squared off
- Pointed chin - the chin line comes to an obvious single angle at its tip
Chin Length:
- Short chin - the distance between the teeth and the tip of the chin is exceptionally short
- Long chin - the distance between the teeth and the tip of the chin is exceptionally long
Chin Width:
- Narrow chin - the lateral width of the chin boss is exceptionally narrow; the extreme is a pointed chin
- Wide chin - the lateral width of the chin boss is exceptionally wide, closer to the width of the mandible at the angle of the mandible
Miscellaneous Facial Features of the Chin Area:
- Dimpled chin - the chin has a single depression in the midline of the chin boss (not two dimples on either side nor cheek dimples)
- Weak chin - a receeding chin or one that slopes posteriorly rather than outwards
