(based on a Lecture for the IWAFGR of 1995)

What is the purpose of this FAQ?

Well, the following might not be questions very frequently asked, but they are important questions that are frankly answered. With the specializations within science and technology, different perspectives develop about fields of study. Biologists and behavioral scientists have been trying to understand facial expressions for over 150 years, and they have developed some knowledge that might be useful to scientists and engineers from other specialities who are beginning to apply their own methods to this field. This FAQ is a quick study on relevant points for applying computational methods to facial communications. Answers contain AVI video clips that require the appropriate plug-in; e.g., in Windows® systems, this will be your Multimedia viewer).
