The FACSAID Service
The FACSAID Service is a fee-for-service subscription to use the FACSAID database. The delivery of FACSAID services has had a long history, and the strengths and deficiencies of this system are now understood. For most users, FACSAID has been provided without charge, and the costs of maintainance, service, and improvements were born by the sponsoring business. For more details about this history, see the History of FACSAID page. This free-of-charge arrangement is no longer possible, and the service must now generate the revenues to support its continued availability and enhancement. An updated system is planned that will increase the value of FACSAID beyond its current levels and provide a higher level of service, support, and availability.
Current Description of the FACSAID Service:
The delivery of FACSAID services revolves around a new Java application that runs on your network-connected microcomputer. The first version of this program, available soon, provides functions equivalent to those of the original Web applet, such as batch-processing files of FACS scores,
interpretation of FACS scores that are not now in the database, and reverse lookups.
If you might be interested in purchasing the FACSAID service,
fill out the Request Form for additional information about FACSAID. You will receive email about the details of the FACSAID service
when they are completed. You incur no obligation by completing this form. Otherwise, check back here for details as they become available.
Prices and Terms: The FACSAID Service is an annual subscription oriented towards a single research group or department. Each subscription permits one client connection to the database at any given time, and an authorization for a single contact person to use the support service for FACSAID. Prices have not yet been determined, but will be posted here as soon as they are final. There will be an advance purchase period during which a significant discount will be offered for services that are provided by the replacement client application mentioned above. All software upgrades will be provided to subscribers free of charge. There will also be additional charges for any new interpretations of FACS scores. |
