Levator palprebrae superioris raises the upper eyelid, pulling it back into the eye socket and exposing the top of the iris and sclera around it. This action opens the eyes wide. It originates in the roof of the orbit and inserts in various tissues, including the surface of the upper eyelid. It is innervated by the oculomotor nerve (III) and is supplied with blood by the internal carotid and supraorbital arteries.
